This is surveillance video, captured on May 19, 2010, in a shopping center in Istanbul, Turkey.
A four year old boy playing grabs the handrail from the outside of the escalator and begins to ascend. As he continues to rise, he realizes he is now too high to let go.
A quick thinking shopkeeper, Ali Apari, sees the incident unfolding and rushes over to help.
As the boy reaches the next floor, the handrail begins to return downwards, causing the boy to lose his grip and fall into the arms of the shopkeeper fifteen feet below.
Thanks to the heroic actions of the shopkeeper, the boy managed to escape without a scratch despite what could have easily been life threatening injuries.
